Walk to the sand
Why the house is like this.
We built Tideline House for ourselves, which is the only reason it is laid out the way it is. The glazing faces the bay rather than the road, the fire is where you actually sit, and the outdoor shower is at the sheltered end of the deck because we got tired of tracking sand through the house.
We let it out most of the year and stay in it ourselves the rest. We answer the phone, we know which track is washed out, and we would rather you booked with us than paid someone else fifteen percent to stand between us.

Forty seconds down the path to the sand. Flat, walkable barefoot.

Cathedral Cove is a 45-minute walk from the car park up the road, or ten minutes by kayak from the beach in front of you.

Hot Water Beach is 15 minutes south. Take a spade and go two hours either side of low tide, not whenever you feel like it.

Things worth knowing first.
Getting here
Two and a half hours from Auckland, forty minutes from Whitianga. The last 400m is a sealed private drive. A two-wheel-drive car is fine year round.
The tides
The beach in front doubles in width at low tide and the swimming is better an hour either side of high. Hot Water Beach only works around low tide, so check before you drive down.
Supplies
The Hāhei store covers basics and is four minutes away. For a real shop, do it in Whitianga on the way through. There is no delivery out here.
